How to Enter

Entering the awards has never been easier; simply complete the application form below and submit as directed. If you wish to enter more than one award, please complete one entry form at a time.
If you wish to nominate another company for an award, please email the events team directly at events@obn.org.uk and we will follow up on your behalf.
Entries will be assessed by an independent judging panel with three finalists selected to attend the awards.
Closing date for nominations will be Monday 9 July

Award 1

Recognises a UK registered start-up biotech company that best meets the following criteria:

  • Incorporated in the UK on or after 1 June 2016
  • Making an impact on the industry via significant news flow
  • Proof of successful seed or Series A fundraising
  • Early clinical trial activity
  • Clear evidence of  early stage implementation of a robust business plan
Award 2

Recognises a UK registered emerging biotech company that best meets the following criteria:

Incorporated in the UK on or after 1 June 2013 but before 1 June 2016

  • Evidence of a credible product pipeline
  • Proof of significant clinical trial activity
  • Making an impact on the industry via significant news flow
  • Proof of continued fundraising
  • Evidence of a strong team in place
  • Proof of developing partnerships and collaborations
  • Clear evidence of a robust business plan to support continued growth
Award 3

Recognises a UK registered established biotech company that best meets the following criteria:

  • Incorporated in the UK before 1 June 2013
  • Strong progress in clinical trials
  • Making an impact on the industry via significant news flow
  • Proof of ongoing fundraising
  • Evidence of business success and deals
  • Proof of established partnerships and collaborations
Award 4

This category is open to all diagnostic medtech companies who are asked to submit a c.250 word summary to include: 

  • A summary outline of the technology
  • Why it is different
  • How it is/will be impactful
  • What is the speed of progress 
Award 5

This category is open to all imaging medtech companies who are asked to submit a c.250 word summary to include: 

  • A summary outline of the technology
  • Why it is different
  • How it is/will be impactful

What is the speed of progress 

Award 6

This category is open to all medtech companies (non-imaging or diagnostic) who are asked to submit a c.250 word summary to include: 

  • A summary outline of the technology include granted or pending patents
  • Why it is different
  • How it is/will be impactful
Award 7

Recognises a company using a digital technology to improve patient outcomes, and who best meet the following criteria:

  • Incorporated in the UK before 1 June 2013
  • Proof of how the digital technology supports patients in the self-management of their health/condition
  • Evidence of how the technology improves the health of patients and improves patient-healthcare system interaction and efficiency
  • Evidence of uptake by health care providers/NHS
  • Clear evidence of a robust business plan to support continued growth
Award 8

Recognises an outstanding contract research organisation working in a niche area e.g., paediatric disease/clinical research, formulation development and regulatory, who best meet the following criteria: 

  • Can provide evidence of niche status
  • Proof of an outstanding client service record, to include testimonials and endorsements
  • Evidence of strategic impact for the client
  • Strong business alliances to supplement core skills
Award 9

This is a broad ranging award that recognises outstanding levels of support or service to companies in the life sciences sector.  The winner could be a CRO, law firm, IP agent, science park, sector organisation or government body.  

Applicants are asked to submit a c.250 word summary of how they provide outstanding support to the industry

Award 10

This award recognises the emerging industrial or synthetic biology company that has the most promise.  Entrants will be assessed on capital raised, level of innovation and their likely disruptive impact

Award 11

This award recognises an organisation or individual that has recently received grant funding or seed stage funding and presented at the BioSeed pitching event in November 2017. 

The judges will consider the broad progress that each entrant has made since November, in line with their business strategy

Award 12

This award celebrates a pioneering individual whose continued support throughout the Life Sciences industry has enabled the growth and development of many start-up and emerging companies.

Voted for exclusively by the OBN Award Judging Panel

Award 13

This category will be awarded to the company who is a true inspiration to the rest of the industry, and one that the judges felt were the most innovative, forward thinking, bold and stood out from their peers.
